Respecting and taking care of the planet through concrete actions are fundamental and essential principles for MET’s environmental policy.
For many years we have been promoting the circular economy with the aim of minimizing the environmental impact of the production of woven labels. Our active commitment has allowed us to continue to improve and achieve many of the objectives set: among the most important we mention the achievement of the GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certification, an international standard that promotes the sustainable production of clothing and textile products.
On the occasion of World Recycling Day, established in 2018 by the Global Recycle Foundation, we retrace some of the most significant behaviours that we implement in the company day after day.
New life to waste
Among the technologies that are part of our machinery inventory, we have introduced a fraying machine which reduces all waste that does not comply with our production quality standards to regenerable material, creating a polyester staple that can be reintegrated into the production cycle. A concrete example of application is the creation of millefiori cloth, used in construction as an insulating and protective material.
Our “recycled” range
Aware that joint action can lead to real results, even when it comes to environmental issues, we have decided to gradually convert our production up to the total use of recycled raw material. This, derived from PET plastic bottles, allows us to create our line of Re-life® labels.
We have recently also introduced a “fashion” item, which gives a second life to the labels discarded during production: pendant earrings in polyester fabric to be worn as unique pieces.
Separate waste collection
Internal organization and raising awareness of this increasingly topical issue mean that implementing separate waste collection in the plant is practically a certainty.
From the administration to the commercial office, the weaving and tailoring departments, the whole MET team is able to carefully divide waste. Paper, plastic, glass and unsorted waste have their own marked bins, each arranged in different areas of the plant to facilitate waste separation.
For the disposal of special waste, on the other hand, we rely on specialized companies, favouring its reintroduction into production processes. These include empty plastic yarn cones which, following special processing are used by the automotive industry as components for car bodies.
